Saturday, 20 April 9:30pm at Silbando (Förrlibuckstrasse 62) in Zürich

The ocean cruiser RMS Queen Mary was named after Mary of Teck, the wife of George V and started carrying passengers in 1936. She was considered the fastest cruiser on the Atlantic for many years and whoever travelled on her surely was impressed by the standard she offered.

Facilities included two swimming pools, beauty salons, libraries, nurseries, a music studio, a lecture hall, dog kennels and a telephone connectivity to anywhere in the world. No wonder, celebrities such as Elisabeth Taylor, Clark Gabel, Queen Elisabeth and Fred Astaire enjoyed days of luxury and relaxation on board.

At the IsThereHop? Saturday party, the RMS Queen Mary will once more cross the deep waters while the wind carries music and laughter from her decks into the moon-lit night. And it is of course at the ballroom where all the elegantly dressed guests will meet, chat and dance Lindy Hop while the ship's crew keeps the engines running and the champaign flowing.

Live on stage: The Shirt Tail Stompers
Swing DJ's: Our residents and of course, our special guest DJ Stephan Wuthe from Berlin!

Get inspired by the elegance of the late 1930ies and early 40ies. and by the travellers of the RMS Queen Mary, be it passengers or crew.

Please note: We won’t check your every accessory for 30ies or 40ies authenticity and we certainly won’t ask you to buy an expensive dress/suit for the party! But we expect you to come dressed up elegantly and suitably. Jeans, sneakers, track suit trousers and T-shirts are a no-go. And yes, our doorman is entitled to send you home, right away to get changed if you show up in your everyday clothes.

Dressing up means contributing to the unique atmosphere at our parties. The party location provides a small dressing room with a small mirror in case you need to change after your arrival. Thank you.

…For the Ladies it was common to wear a smart dress, belted around the waist. High waist pants for ladies were popular, too, maybe combined with a beret as worn by Marlene Dietrich. Other hats of many different shapes were worn too, although some women preferred the 30ies snood. And why not try some shoulder pads…?
